Nicole and Janna met through our respective appointments at Creighton University’s School of Medicine. We learn from and contribute to one of the most innovative Medical Humanities programs in the world. Medical studies at Creighton are steeped in ethics, philosophy, discernment, reflection, compassion, and arts integration.
Individually, we both serve faculty, students, physicians, nurses, therapists, and healthcare leaders through our unique modalities: Nicole’s talents reside in engaging the humanities and narrative reflection to help clinicians and trainees reconnect to meaning and purpose. Janna utilizes poetry as a way for processing grief, stress, and disconnection to nurture Self-compassion.
What sets us apart from other consultants: we hold remarkably compatible humanistic beliefs, passion, and approaches for how we help people and systems within medicine. We’re both driven by improving and shaping the way people receive support through humanities-driven solutions.
While we enjoy independent projects and clients (and some projects are better-suited for one or the other) we recognize that together, our complementary skills pack a highly-unique service punch: together, we can serve more people, more leaders, and more deeply address needs at higher levels. We bring agency bandwidth with hands-on boutique service every step of the way.
Because we know system problems are layered and complex, we also collaborate with some of the most brilliant medical and research minds in healthcare: people that can address—through workshops or consulting—a range of research-driven topics, challenges and strategy needs. If we can’t cover it, just ask! It’s likely we have an amazing resource who can.
Whether you work with us individually (depending on needs), or engage our team, we promise total care, thoughtful service, and truly lasting human results.
Hear, You’re Human means we understand the complexity of caring for others under constant stressful circumstances & systems. It means we value your dedication, identity, and accomplishments, while recognizing that you’re more than your profession, more than what’s expected, more than a role. All of your humanness deserves support.
We Believe:
Helping humans means being human.
No matter your role, life in medicine can be unpredictable, complicated, overwhelming.
Humans need an intentional range of equitable, accessible creative ways to process grief and stress.
Everyone benefits from meaningful emotional & tactical support to do better work and begin to thrive.
Visionary leaders willing to explore and do business as UNusual have the power to shift entire cultures in more promising directions.
Engaging with humanities thought-models including Narrative Reflection, Poetry, Photography, & Painting offer breakthrough results.
As technology marches towards de-humanizing medicine, the time is NOW to save what will remain human: compassion, connection, caring for others.
